The Coffee Haus—where we don’t just serve food, we serve tradition
Some recipes start with a cookbook.
Ours started on a sleepy Christmas morning.
The snow had just settled across the prairie—quiet, deep, and still. The kids were still tucked in, the fire had burned down to soft embers, and the morning felt like it had space to dream. That’s when the idea came. Larin and I (Laura) were stirring our coffee, reminiscing over our childhood Christmas tables—his German side with its hearty, buttery traditions; mine, a blend of French finesse, Irish comfort, and Italian warmth.
What could we make that felt like all of that?
Something timeless.
Something full of soul.
Something that felt like a hug on a plate.
That’s when this Bread Pudding was born.
We took flaky croissants—because honestly, why not start with something already wonderful?—and let them soak in a slow-made custard, rich with cream and eggs, vanilla, and just enough warm spice to make your whole kitchen smell like home. We baked it gently until the top was golden and crackled, and the center? Pillowy. Creamy. Melty.
But it’s the final touch that seals the deal:
A generous pour of our Haus-made salted caramel sauce.
Sticky, sweet, buttery perfection. The kind of thing that makes you close your eyes on the first bite.
What started as a holiday whim has become a staple at The Coffee Haus. It shows up at brunches, potlucks, and quiet afternoons when folks just need something comforting. Over time, this little dish has grown roots in our community, and now, it’s not just our family recipe anymore—it belongs to all of you too.
And that got us thinking…
We’ve always believed The Coffee Haus was more than a coffee shop. It’s a place to gather, to reminisce, to celebrate what’s good and true and shared. It’s a place where cinnamon rolls carry stories, and soups taste like Grandma’s apron smells.
So we’re starting something new.
We want your family recipes.
That old, tattered index card. That stained church cookbook from 1962. That secret stuffing recipe you only make on Easter. We want to hear the stories behind them—who made it, when, why it mattered.
Our dream?
To collect those recipes and stories into a Coffee Haus Family Cookbook—a love letter to the kitchens and people that have shaped us. And then, season by season, we’ll bring some of them to life in our own kitchen and serve them with the reverence they deserve.
Drop your recipe and story off at the counter, or email us at [email protected]. We’d be honored to read it, test it, and maybe even feature it on a future menu.
Because in the end, what we’re building here is more than food.
It’s memory. It’s belonging.
It’s tradition—served warm.
See you soon. There might be bread pudding waiting.
Awaken and Abide,
Laura
